The final phase of every ChiBall class is the quietest – and for many people, their favourite. After moving through Tai Chi–Qi Gong, dance, yoga, Pilates and ChiBall Release, the class comes to rest in breathing, relaxation and meditation.
The phase western exercise often leaves out
In the ChiBall Method this is the condensed yin phase, linked with the Water element and Winter. It’s the time when movement becomes stillness – the phase so often left out of western exercise. Our manuals describe it as the moment of “stillness and integration”, when the body and mind take in everything the class has offered.
What we practise
- The Complete Breath – a slow, full breath that fills the belly, ribs and chest
- Dan Tien breathing – breathing gently into the centre, just below the navel
- Guided relaxation and Yoga Nidra – resting comfortably while a teacher guides your attention through the body
Try a short breathing practice
Sit or lie comfortably with your ChiBall resting in your hands. Breathe in slowly through the nose, letting the belly, then the ribs, then the chest gently expand. Breathe out slowly, letting everything soften. Repeat for a few minutes, noticing the aroma of your ChiBall as you breathe.
For a longer practice at home, try The Power of Relaxation download, or the Winter “Reflection” course, which gives extra time to relaxation. View the Winter course
